Just six months ago, Chloe weighed less than a pound and a half. Last Thursday, she hit ten pounds! Needless to say, she has become quite the eater.

More impressive than her appetite for food is her newly found fascination with her environment. She scans rooms looking for items of interest. Once she finds something she likes, she attention span is quite remarkable. You can tell that she is really taking everything in and soaking up the world around her. She smiles and laughs often and has begun speaking both to people and to her toys. Just in the last week, she started reaching for things. When she catches something, she then tries to get it to her mouth!

m

Pie, meet Chloe. I have a feeling that while solid foods are many months away, you two will become fast friends.

(The pie above was made by one of Meredith’s friends and co-workers. It is strawberry-rhubarb, and it is delicious. Please note the message written in the crust. Chloe did not actually eat any pie. Please don’t call CPS on us!)

Chloe had another follow up visit with her pediatrician today. She broke the eight pound mark for the first time, weighing in at 8 lb., 1 oz. Nothing else to note about the visit, really. Chloe seems to be in good health.

J

Chloe’s Just Hanging Out

Chloe seems to be getting along fine here at home. We’re enjoying being around her and watching her personality continue to develop. She stopped sleeping through the night -- too good to last! -- and generally is wide awake by 4:30 a.m. I mean, bushy-tailed and bright-eyed awake! She snacks all day, it seems, and rarely naps.

That scream I described when she received her vaccinations? The “bloody murder” scream? She reprises it every so often, particularly at bath time.

Nonetheless, she is quite the charmer. She loves to be held and talked to. She really takes to “tummy time”, which is when we put her on her tummy on a mat to let her exercise her upper body. I think she views it as a workout, and she throws her energy behind using her muscles and making them grow. That is, until she decides that maybe it would be nice ... to ... lie ... head ... down. And sleep.

We’re suspecting that at her follow up doctor’s appointment tomorrow she’ll weigh 8 pounds. I don’t think she’s actually gotten chubbier, though. It seems to me that she is getting longer.

J

She is endlessly entertaining, although it seems that all she does is eat, eat, eat. She’s actually awake for longer spells than you’d expect. Right now, she’s propped up on a pillow on our bed, just squirming around and entertaining us.

Tomorrow Chloe has her second pediatrician appointment. We’ll find out how much she’s grown and confirm that we haven’t done anything to break her.

Here’s another album of photos: At Home
